Crochet Celtic Cables

I'm bound and determine to figure out Celtic crochet cables that look good and are true to the Celtic look. I've worked on this on and off for a few years and I'm never totally pleased with my work. Here is my latest panel, I'm not totally happy with it BUT I'm not sure what it is that bugs me. I notice some mistakes (which can be fixed) but the overall look isn't what I've envisioned. Hummmm.....

Have you crocheted Celtic cables? Anyone out there with some tips or ideas?

I think it's really pretty!! I've never done any cables. Just looking at your sheet scares me!

Have you tried making each cable two stitches wide instead of one? I've never done celtic cables, but maybe if each "strand" was thicker, it would look more realistic.

Thanks Xia, cables are not hard, I be you'll try them someday!

Hi Pam-
I have never attempted cables however, I agree with Amanda in that the thickness is the issue. Knit cables are typically thicker, and that is what the eye is accustomed to seeing. Just my humble opinion.

Hello,

Can you tell me WHERE on earth I can find some instructions for Celtic cables similar to this? I don't care if it's a tutorial, or instructions, or a link to a book or pattern I can buy. I love to crochet, love cables, love Celtic knotwork. You put it all together better than anyone else I've seen. Thanks in advance!

God bless,

- I found a baby blanket book at A.C. Moore that has some celtic cabling in it for crochet. Its only one pattern, but it definately helps with any planning of other Celtic Knots that you might want to try.
